Music expresses feeling and thought, without language; it was below and before speech, and it is above and beyond all words.

La Calisto
At the Manhattan School of Music’s Summer Voice Festival

With music by Francesco Cavalli and libretto by Giovanni Faustini, the opera La Calisto is based on the myth Callisto from Ovid’s Metamorphoses.  First performed in 1650 at the Teatro San Apollinare in Venice, Italy, La Calisto tells the tale of mischievous deities playing with the hearts of mortals.  In this tale of betrayal, seduction, and revenge, no one is immune to the power of attraction, no matter what they claim.
