By Giovanni Battista Pergolesi

Pergolesi’s musical setting of the Stabat Mater hymn has been one of the most celebrated sacred works since it was composed in 1736. Its depiction of the suffering of Mary during The Crucifixion mirrors Pergolesi’s own suffering, as it was written on his deathbed. The performance takes place during Lent, on the anniversary of the composer’s death.
